Dei Principi di Spadafora

The Spadafora family is an ancient Sicilian noble house, first documented in 1230. Over the centuries, the family has held sway over five principalities, a duchy, two marquisates, a county, and twenty-five baronies. The family farm was founded by Don Pietro dei Principi di Spadafora, who inherited the estate from his uncle Michele De Stefani, a renowned farmer and racehorse breeder. After the severe damage suffered in the 1968 earthquake, Don Pietro dedicated himself to rebuilding and enhancing the estate, focusing on the recovery of native vineyards and the introduction of non-native varieties, aimed at producing high-quality wines. The family vineyards are located in Contrada Virzì (in the Monreale area) on land adjacent to the winery, at an altitude ranging from 220 to 400 meters above sea level, with a temperature range of approximately 10-15°C between day and night. The estate covers approximately 180 hectares (100 of which are vineyards). The white grape varieties grown include Catarratto, Grillo, Inzolia, and Chardonnay, while the red varieties include Nero d’Avola, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Dei Principi di Spadafora integrates sustainability into its production philosophy. To this end, they use alternative energy sources, as well as lighter glass bottles and organic corks made from natural materials such as sugar beet. Today, the estate is led by Francesco Spadafora, Don Pietro’s son, with the support of his daughter Enrica.
